6/18/2020 – COVID-19 Update | Summer Programs

The park district, in response to the present challenging circumstances, has taken on new procedures to continue providing services safely to the community. We have closed our parks, playgrounds and facilities in accordance with the Governors Executive Orders. We have promoted best practices according to CDC and IDPH guidelines in order to keep our residents safe. We have directed our non-essential staff to stay home and work remotely when possible. We have kept in communication with our most vulnerable residents on a regular basis to make sure they are doing well and to avoid social isolation.

Unfortunately, the park district has concluded that conducting Summer Camp programs will not be possible. We cannot be assured that the participants and staff will be able to social distance according to state guidelines. We will not compromise the safety of our participants or staff.

The park district will attempt to continue to provide virtual programs through our website or through other social media outlets. Virtual programming has become a new way to enjoy fun programs for the entire family. We will attempt to bring the park district to you in your home, office or place of your choosing. I encourage you to enjoy our virtual programs as the staff has put these programs together for you.

One day soon we will be back together enjoying each others company. Please stay home, stay safe, social distance and watch out for each other. We will be together soon.

4/02/2020 – COVID-19 Update | Stay in Place

The North Berwyn Park District will continue to keep all facilities closed through April 30 in accordance with Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order 2020-18 issued on March 31, which states all Illinois residents are required to Stay at Home.

The park district will evaluate the ongoing situation and keep the public informed of park district activities in the future.

Please be advised the park district will continue to follow suggested best practices from the CDC and IDPH.

Please continue to be safe and follow guidelines suggested by the CDC and IDPH regarding personal safety.

3/20/20 – COVID-19 Update | Playground Closures

In response to Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order issued on March 20, requiring all Illinois residents to stay home with limited exceptions, the North Berwyn Park District is expanding closures. Our playgrounds across our community tend to be gathering spaces for many, which under normal circumstances are why we love them, but in these challenging times are areas prohibited by this Executive Order. With that being said, all of the North Berwyn Park District outdoor playgrounds have been temporarily closed until further notice.

Getting fresh air however is still important to our overall wellness. Governor Pritzker states that individuals may still leave their homes for outdoor activities such as walking, biking, and running; as long as social distancing requirements are met. We hope these additional short-term sacrifices we are all taking will stop the spread of COVID-19, and allow us to see you all again that much quicker.

3/14/20 – COVID-19 Update | 16th St. Theater

For the safety of our audience, artists and staff in this time of social distancing toward the mutual goal of halting the spread of COVID-19, 16th Street will be cancelling all live performances of Steven Strafford’s METHTACULAR!

Stay tuned as we are looking into how to bring password-protected streaming of METHTACULAR! into all ticket holders homes for a limited time!  We want you to be able experience this “engaging, sincere tale from a very talented and tuneful guy about how life, however hopeless it may seem, can always get better.” (Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune)

What an important message right now.

We look forward to bringing you back into our theater with Najla Said’s Palestine.

The Staff and Board of 16th Street Theater want you to stay healthy, stay home if you are sick, wash your hands and don’t touch your face!

3/13/20 – COVID-19 Update | Facility Closures

The North Berwyn Park District’s top priority is ensuring the safety of all participants.  As an agency we’ve been closely monitoring information being presented by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding COVID-19.

Under recommendations from these organizations we have had to make some challenging decisions.  The reason these decisions were particularly hard for us is because of the nature of what we do, we bring people together with events, programming and recreational activities-areas where the CDC has outlined COVID-19 can easily spread.

We have decided to cancel/suspend all park district programs and activities beginning March 14th , with a tentative restart date of April 6th.

If you have any questions, please call the park district at (708)749-4900.

3/13/2020 COVID-19 Update – Patron Safety is our Top Priority

The North Berwyn Park District is closely monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) for best practices and procedures regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak. Currently, there are no anti-viral prevention treatments available for the virus. The most effective way to stay healthy and minimize the spread of infectious disease is to follow basic health practices including:

• Stay home if you are sick and avoid contact with other sick people until they are well.

• Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing or by coughing into the inside of your elbow/sleeve. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

• Wash hands often especially before eating and after contact with public surfaces. Wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not    available use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects including counters, desks, cell phones, computers and TV remotes.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60-95% alcohol if washing your hands with soap and water is not an option.

The North Berwyn Park District has taken steps to help control the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) as well as other known viruses such as the flu and the common cold.

To prevent the spread of the virus:

• Upon entering any Park District facility or attending any Park District program, please wash your hands.

• All District facilities are being regularly disinfected, which includes disinfecting door handles, handrails grab bars and equipment.

• Posters encouraging precautionary steps are posted at the entrance to all building entrances and restrooms.

• Tissues and disposal receptacles are available at all facilities.

• When possible, hand sanitizer will be placed throughout District facilities.

The District will continue to monitor information from the CDC and the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) and staff have modified procedures accordingly. We will keep you informed should recommendations change.

The District is asking you to do your part to contain the spread of infectious diseases by staying home or keeping your child home from Park District programs and facilities if you or your child are experiencing flu like symptoms or if you are not feeling well. If you or a member of your family contracts COVID-19, please contact Administrative Assistant, Nancy Woods (708)749-4900 ext. 11.
