Drawing and Painting

This class will present students with a weekly lesson in art and art history.  Multiple painting techniques and mediums will be covered during the 8 week timeline, giving participants the opportunity and freedom to explore the many options a painter has to choose from.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Instructor: Tara Tischer

If your child is a shutterbug, then our photography class is the perfect place for them to learn the basics of photography!  Weekly lessons are designed to teach students the principles and rules of photography while giving them the freedom to choose their subject matter and style.  Whether students have a DSLR, point and shoot, or a phone camera, they will be shown how to take clear concise pictures.

The Art of Science

If your child is just as creative as they are inquisitive, then this class is perfect for them!  The Art of Science will guide your child through a weekly lesson that incorporates science to stimulate their love of learning while producing beautiful works of art.  We will be creating a painting pendulum, make paint that fizzes, and more!

Join us for some Pinspiration!  Each week we will take some of the top trends from Pinterest and turn them into reality!  Projects will include framed jewelry holders, printed silk scarves and marbelized note cards, to name a few.  Don’t worry about having a Pinterest fail, you will be guided step by step through each project and take home some beautiful works of art!

NEW! Mixed Media Masterpieces

In the art world there are no limits, so why limit yourself to one medium?  In this class, students will have the opportunity to sculpt, collage, paint, draw, and more!  Weekly lessons will be presented at class time, giving participants the opportunity to explore the wide world of mixed media art, where the only limitation is your imagination.

NEW! Open Studio

If your hectic schedule has prevented you from committing to our 8 week long classes, then our new drop in open studio hours are perfect for your creative family!  Simply purchase a punch card good for 5 visits from our front desk and drop in when the mood strikes.  Basic materials for painting and drawing projects will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring materials from home as long as they are non-toxic and do not require specialized ventilation.  Please see below for more information. 

Studio Guidelines
  ∙ While this is not an instructor lead class, each Open Studio session will be staffed by park district personnel     who will assist the artists with materials and offer advice and guidance as needed. 

  ∙ Parents of participants under the age of 14 must sign them in and out of the Open Studio program.

  ∙ Participants are not allowed to return to the Open Studio session once they have signed out.

  ∙ There will be a limit of 1 canvas per visit.

  ∙ Each person attending Open Studio hours must register for a 5 visit punch card at the front desk before     attending. Punch cards can be used on any session day.

  ∙ Open Studio participants are able to store current projects at the studio, finished pieces must be taken        home.

  ∙ Participants are expected to clean and put away any materials used, and clean up their work space before     leaving.  

  ∙ The park district reserves the right to close Open Studio if participants have not arrived within 45 minutes of      session time.

NEW! Ceramic Painting

Bring the whole family out for our new ceramics painting sessions!  Simply pick out your favorite piece of pottery, pay for it at our front desk, then sit down to paint using our wide selection of acrylic paints.  With  over 25 items to choose from, everyone is sure to find something they love!  Some of the ceramic pieces offered include: various figurines and animals, an assortment of piggy banks, decorative plates, bowls, coasters, and trinket boxes.  All pieces are available on a first come, first served basis. 

*Ceramic painting is for decorative use only, items are not food/water safe
